Bougain Avenida

At number 164 on Avenida da Liberdade, a garden bursts unexpectedly between elegant façades and the hurried pace of the city. It is there that Bougain Avenida comes to life, housed in the Hotel Valverde, bringing to the heart of Lisbon the spirit of the Bougain Restaurant & Garden Bar in Cascais.

The project preserves the identity that made the original venue a gastronomic destination. The restaurant is arranged around a garden that runs through both indoor and outdoor areas, creating a calm atmosphere that contrasts with the energy of the Avenue. Natural materials, floral fabrics and the distinctive Guatemala green marble define a bright décor, where every detail extends this sense of an urban retreat.

In the kitchen, chef João Santos creates a Mediterranean-inspired menu, guided by product quality and seasonality. Starters such as spicy tuna tartare, scallop carpaccio or grouper and prawn bouillabaisse set a light tone before the main courses, among which the red mullet with leek purée, sea bass en papillote and the classic steak au poivre stand out. Some of the dishes that defined Bougain’s success in Cascais also make the journey, including cured amberjack, gambas al ajillo, carabineiro rice and tiramisù.

At the entrance, the bar takes centre stage, serving signature cocktails and timeless classics alongside a wine cellar with more than 130 labels, where Portuguese wines hold pride of place next to carefully selected international choices.
